Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel with lower emission levels than those from the combustion of other fossil fuels, and has low environmental impact. Oil and gas companies recover natural gas from underground reservoirs by drilling into a targeted subsurface deposit and extracting the hydrocarbons. If the initial drilling results are promising, the well is completed and becomes a "production well". Once produced, natural gas is delivered through extensive interstate and intrastate pipeline systems, providing economical natural gas to industrial and commercial users or local distribution companies which in turn deliver natural gas to millions of individual households. The San Patricio Pipeline will provide a critical link from a new source of supply to the existing in the natural gas delivery system to a new source of supply to help meet growing natural gas demand in the United States and Mexico. San Patricio Pipeline's (SPP) parent company, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, does extensive research when planning construction and pipeline routes to ensure minimal environmental impact. SPP will comply with state and federal regulations in all phases of pipeline planning, construction and operation.
